Ideally, the custom URL should be something close to linkedin.com/yourname – which will look neat and project a more professional image.

If there’s one factor that makes some LinkedIn profiles stand out more than others it is definitely recommendations. Getting recommendations from people with who you have a good working relationship can make a world of difference – so don’t be afraid to ask.
Make it a point to personalize your request for recommendations as you’ll get far more responses if you do. After you’ve collected a few, you can choose which ones to display on your profile.
Take skill assessments
Skill assessments are online tests that check the levels of your skills. If you pass them, a ‘Verified Skills’ badge will be placed on your profile – which will give your credibility a big boost.
Think of skill assessments as a way to provide hard evidence that proves your abilities.
